ข้อมูลเบื้องต้น : ผึ้งช่างไม้จิ๋วแต้มเหลืองข้างดำเป็นผึ้งที่มีการดำรงชีวิตแบบกึ่งสังคม (subsocial) โดยเพศเมียจะเจาะสร้างรังในกิ่งไม้แห้งที่มีแกนเนื้อไม้อ่อนนุ่ม ภายในรังสามารถพบเพศเมียคอยดูแลได้มากกว่า 1 ตัว โดยในรังจะมีเพศเมีย 1 ตัวที่มีการพัฒนารังไข่อย่างดี และมีเพศเมียที่มีบทบาทในการออกหาอาหาร หรือสำรวจภายในห้องตัวอ่อนแต่ละห้องซึ่งคาดว่าเป็นการตรวจเช็คเพื่อป้องกันปรสิต จากข้อมูลในพิพิธภัณฑสถานธรรมชาติวิทยาแห่งจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พบว่ามีรายงานผสมเกสรของพืชหลายชนิดเช่นปืนนกไส้ (Bidens pilosa L.) ฟักทองน้ำเต้า (Cucurbita pepo L.) หญ้าขนไก่ (Lepidagathis incurva Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don) พวงคราม (Petrea volubilis L.) และมะกรูด (Citrus hystrix DC.)
ลักษณะเด่น : ผึ้งช่างไม้จิ๋วแต้มเหลืองข้างดำจัดเป็นผึ้งช่างไม้จิ๋วสกุลย่อย Ceratinidia ที่มีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่กว่าชนิดอื่น ร่างกายมีสีดำตัดกับรอยแต้มสีเหลืองตามส่วนต่าง ๆ ของร่างกาย ในขาคู่หน้า ส่วนของ coxa จะมีส่วนข้างยื่นออกเป็นหนามแหลม ในส่วน scutum จะมีแถบสีเหลืองปรากฏ 4 แถบชัดเจน พื้นผิวด้านข้างขรุขระเป็นหลุมแค่บางส่วน

การกระจายพันธุ์ : สามารถพบได้ทั่วไปในประเทศไทยและประเทศแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ นอกจากนี้ยังสามารถพบได้ในประเทศจีน (ฮ่องกงและมณฑลเหอหนาน) และไต้หวัน
